Blwyddyn 6

Blwyddyn 6

Year 6 is often described as the busiest year in school, filled with memorable experiences and meaningful learning. Learners have the opportunity to take ownership of their education by choosing topics that interest them most. Favourites always include World War II, Fashion, What Makes Me Me, and The Natural Environment, among many others.

The Autumn term is particularly vibrant, as Year 6 pupils take centre stage in our Winter Production or Carol Service. This is a highlight of the year, offering learners the chance to help design props, select music and lighting, and perform confidently in front of parents and friends.

We conclude the term with our much-loved School Christmas Market, where learners become true entrepreneurs. They research existing products, design new items, and work collaboratively to create goods to sell. Any profits made are reinvested into additional classroom resources or saved towards a trip of the learners’ choice.

Physical Education remains a vital part of the timetable. Year 6 enjoy PE every Monday during our BMO sessions and again on Wednesday afternoons. It is essential that pupils come appropriately dressed for active participation. Over the course of the year, learners also take part in a block of swimming lessons, with dates and times shared in the Headteacher’s monthly newsletter.

ICT features daily in Year 6 learning. Pupils use technology to research, create, and present work using Adobe tools before saving their finished projects on their personal Google Site “Passports” or sharing them via Teams. Year 6 learners demonstrate strong digital independence, with a focus on developing their skills in Coding and Microsoft Excel.

Each learner has access to their own laptop and a range of digital platforms, including Hwb, TT Rockstars, Duolingo, DarllenCo, and Spelling Shed. We also encourage pupils to watch Newsround weekly to expand their awareness of global events.

The Spring and Summer terms introduce exciting leadership opportunities. Pupils may be selected to represent their House—Gogerddan, Hafod, or Nanteos—as House Leaders.

In March, we celebrate our learners’ talents during the School Eisteddfod, and in the Summer term we hold our annual Sports Day. A particular highlight for many is the enthusiastic parents' race, always a crowd favourite.

Our annual residential trip is often described by learners as “the best holiday ever.” This experience allows pupils to build new skills, enjoy time with friends, and make lasting memories in a relaxed and supportive environment.

As the year comes to a close, Year 6 enjoy a final week of celebration, including water fights, tournaments, and the iconic Teachers vs. Year 6 football match—an event that is always fiercely competitive, with Mr Evans guarding the goal with great dedication.

Learners also take part in their Leavers’ Assembly, where each pupil reflects on their time at Ysgol Llwyn yr Eos in a formal yet joyful celebration attended by parents and friends.

During the year we have various activities and visitors in class. Follow us on Instagram and facebook to find out more about our busy timetable.
