Blwyddyn 6

The busiest and most fun-filled year in school.

Learners get the opportunity to choose the topics they would like to learn more about in Year 6; World War 2 and the Natural Environment always comes out on top.

The Autumn term is always a busy term for Year 6 as they play the lead roles in our Winter production or Carol Service. This is always a fun experience as they get the opportunity to help create props, choose appropriate music and lighting as well as get an amazing opportunity to perform in front of Llwyn yr Eos parents and friends.

We finish the first term with our school Christmas Market where learners become Entrepreneurs. Year 6 enjoy researching what is already on the market and finding new things to make and sell in order to make a profit. The profit that they make is used to buy additional resources or is saved for a trip of their choice.

Physical Education is an important part of the timetable. We enjoy P.E on Monday afternoon and Friday afternoon. It is important that the children come appropriately dressed on those days in order to participate fully in the activity. During the year we are very fortunate to have BMO coaching sessions. We also have a block of swimming lessons during the year. The timetable for these sessions are shared in the monthly Headteachers newsletter.

ICT is part of our daily timetable in Year 6. We use it to research, create and share work. We encourage learners to use Adobe to present their work in many forms before saving their work on their individual Passports on Google Sites or sharing on Teams. Learners in Year 6 show great independence when working with ICT. By the Spring and Summer term we focus on developing a stronger understanding of Coding and Microsoft Excel through various activities. Each learner has a personal laptop and has access to Hwb, ttrockstars, duolingo, DarllenCo, and Spelling Shed. We also encourage pupils to watch Newsround weekly to gain a better understanding of what is happening around the World.

Homework is given on Friday afternoon and is expected to be returned by Tuesday. We encourage pupils to share their homework on Teams if possible.

The Spring and Summer term offers new opportunities for Year 6 pupils to become leaders of their House – Gogerddan, Hafod, Nanteos. In March we celebrate our learners’ talent during our School Eisteddfod and during the Summer term we hold our annual School Sports Day. The highlight of Sports Day is watching our parents battle for the finish line, a race not to be missed.

An event that is considered ‘The best weekend ever’ by our learners is the trip to Manor Adventure. Year 5 and 6 leave school on Friday morning and spend the whole weekend with friends participating in a mixture of activities such as canoeing, raft building, blind trails, ziplining over a lake and of course midnight feasts, before returning to school on Monday afternoon full of stories having made amazing memories with friends.

Year 6 learners get an additional treat before leaving school – Leavers assembly and a sleepover in school.

The Leavers Assembly is an opportunity for parents to come in to listen to each pupil share their experience at Ysgol Llwyn yr Eos in a formal but fun assembly. To thank our Year 6 learners, they get to enjoy a sleepover at school!

During the year we have various activities and visitors in class. Follow us on X (twitter) to find out more about our busy timetable @llwynyreos.
